|
|
Complete transcript of the Irish conspiracy trial of Daniel O’Connell and others for “unlawfully and seditiously conspiring to raise and create discontent and disaffection amongst the Queen’s subjects” and thereby compromising English rule in Ireland. His co-conspirators also charged were John O'Connell, Thomas Steele, Thomas Matthew Ray, Charles Gavan Duffy, John Gray, Richard Barrett, and Rev. Thomas Tierney. According to the charges, the plot began in Dublin on February 13, 1843. All were convicted of at least some of the 11 counts in the indictment. Subsequent to the trial, the House of Lords took the entire action under advisement and quashed the conviction citing the proceedings’ general unfairness.
