LLMC Showcase during AALL Conference: ‘Global Equity and Social Justice’ (July 19th 3-4pm CDT)

The exhibitor showcase for LLMC (Law Library Microform Consortium) at the 2021 AALL Virtual Conference will be Monday, July 19 from 3:00pm-4:00pm CDT.  It is entitled ‘Global Equity and Social Justice’ and will cover our nonprofit LLMC consortium’s services --LLMC Digital, Indigenous Law Portal, RIGHTS!, and LLMC Open Access – which provide vital resources for anyone researching US, Canadian, and worldwide matters of global equity and social justice.  This past year, LLMC released the new RIGHTS! portal in response to Black Lives Matter; reorganized the Indigenous Law Collection; and, added thousands of new titles covering Early State Records, the Caribbean, Africa, and materials responsive to decolonization, transition periods, and social justice.  Kurt Meyer, Assistant Director, Global Content Development & Preservation will lead the presentation on this essential topic.

LLMC Annual Members Meeting (July 19th 4:15-5pm CDT)

Directly following our ‘must see’ AALL Showcase, LLMC is hosting its second virtual Annual Members Meeting. Please plan to join us from 4:15pm-5pm CDT for updates about key initiatives and other consortium business.

In spite of the challenges this past year, our consortium is stronger and has even more to offer!  We have continued to stay productive during the pandemic, delivering several record-breaking months of new title counts; case in point, we added 480 fully cataloged titles in March 2021!  Other recent accomplishments include:

  • LLMC’s website offers a ‘Webinars and Events’ section and we’ve increased our webinar efforts, due to travel restrictions and the need for more ‘virtual’ outreach,
  • commitment to permanent support for civil rights as part of the Black Lives Matter movement manifests as an open access RIGHTS! portal with Perma Links and sponsorship by Saint Louis University School of Law Vincent C. Immel Law Library,
  • continued support for Indigenous People includes enhancements to the open access Indigenous Law Portal such as Perma Links and Circumpolar coverage,
  • creation of the new Indigenous Law collection (formerly, Native American) on LLMC Digital with a new structure that parallels that of the aforementioned Indigenous Law Portal,
  • LLMC Digital and LLMC website moved to the cloud for faster response time and other benefits,
  • relocated our Minnesota headquarters to an updated, scalable facility in Bloomington,
  • Early State Records continues to be most heavily searched collection on LLMC Digital in 2020 and, as of March 2021, over 4,941 ESR titles have been digitized,
  • newly added collections for Foreign Official Gazettes and General Works (Social Sciences, Political Science, Religion, Psychology, Philosophy, History, and Medicine) are also in top 20 most heavily searched LLMC Digital collections,
  • expanded OCRing languages (Thai, Chinese/Japanese/Korean, Vietnamese),
  • more records and briefs in collaboration with Google: Michigan (coming soon), Illinois (Supreme Court will follow 7th Circuit), Pennsylvania (coming soon), and Appellate Cases of the US Supreme Court,
  • Google partnership expands to showcase the Code of Massachusetts Regulations and Massachusetts Register (which will be complete from 1987-current by yearend),
  • CRL (Center for Research Libraries) partnership results in more African, Quebec, and South American titles,
  • The AALL collaboration moves forward with Hibernia Turbeville and Helen Newman Papers now online. The Digital Access to Legal Information Committee (DALIC) Records and Publications are currently being processed,
  • and so much more, including a substantial run of the Uganda Gazette resulting from the collaboration with AfricanLII and Laws.Africa!
