left no official record of its deliberations. These documents, edited by Pope, were obtained by him in his role as biographer and literary executor of
Sir John Macdonald, one of the principal founding fathers and first Prime Minister of Canada. Most of the fragmentary notes compiled and edited by
Pope were taken by Lieutenant-Colonel Bernard, the Secretary of the Conference.)
