Carleton. Report on the massacre at Mountain Meadows, Utah, 1860

Report by Brevet Major James Henry Carleton reporting the massacre of 120 people from Arkansas at Mountain Meadows, in Utah Territory, in September
1857. Also included was a report of William C. Mitchell regarding the seventeen surviving children, orphaned in the massacre. The reports were
printed in 1860, which was submitted to the governor of Arkansas. Contained was the conclusion that Mormons, with assistance from Indians, were responsible
for killing these people who were on their way to California. Of note, following the Civil War, only one person was convicted and executed for this
