Description and Holding Information
1866, Constitution
The Constitution of the State of Texas, as amended by the delegates in convention, who assembled in Austin in 1866. Included was the abolition of
slavery and declaring secession illegal, although legislature had to be white and live for five years in Texas. Of note, this constitution was
invalidated in 1869; a new constitution had to be drafted that was acceptable under the Reconstruction Acts. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title
originally held by the Library of Congress).
