1868, Constitution
The Constitution of the State of South Carolina with the Ordinances thereunto appended, adopted by the Constitutional Convention held at Charleston
and adjourned on Mary 17, 1868. This convention was assembled under the Reconstruction Acts of Congress, and made significant changes to the prior
constitution of 1865. The 1868 version made a number of changes, most significantly in Article VIII, which allowed all men over 21 years of age the
right to vote, unless otherwise disqualified by the U.S. Congress. Included group included ex-Confederates, who were prevented from voting or holding
office. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the New York Public Library).
