Description and Holding Information
1852, Convention journal
Manuscript of the Journal of the 1852 State Convention of South Carolina, together with the resolution and ordinance. In addition, appendices are
included containing the minority and an individual member's reports, as well as the listing of the convention members, and an index. This convention
resolved on April 30th that the federal government's violation of the constitution by its encroachment of the rights of the state, particularly slavery,
justified "dissolving at once all political connection with her Co-States," although South Carolina chose not to for "expediency" reasons. The
convention then voted to pass an ordinance to declare the "right of the state to secede" from the federal union. The minority report See LLMC #21132 for
related document. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the New York Public Library).
