Auditor. Special report on public debt and finances, 1842
Pub. Doc. No. 28 Special report of the Auditor of State [Ohio], on the public debt and finances in answer to a resolution of the House. December
27, 1842. The House asked how much money was needed to run the government for the coming year, how much to cover the public debt, and how much
counties affected by various public works would have to be taxed. Mr. Brough laid out estimates. He thought the expenses of government would be about
$200,000, leaving about $96,000 in the bank at the end of 1843. There would be a significant deficit in the Canal Fund. He created a table by county to
estimate the millage each would have to pay.
