Auditor. Special report on the Common School tax for 1838, 1842
Doc. No. 53 Special report of the Auditor of State [Ohio] in reply to a resolution of the House relative to State Common School tax for 1838.
January 19, 1842. Did any counties levy a common school tax, and did any of them pay money to the state treasury from that tax? Mr. Brough said the
accounting system did not show that data, so he contacted the several counties. Only three counties levied such a tax, and not until the Auditor made an
issue of it, had they paid any money to the state. Reluctantly, $456 was paid to the state.
