Auditor. Special report on collectors of tolls, 1841
Doc. No. 38 Special report of the Auditor of State [Ohio], in reply to a resolution of the House in relation to collectors of toll. John Brough
reported on January 18, 1841. The House wanted to know who was not turning in money on time. A collector was supposed to deposit a month's takings by
the sixth day of the following month. If a collector missed the deadline by a month, he could be fired. Seven people were listed for late
deliveries in 1839 and 1840. One man had been fired and still owed just over $9,000.
