Board of Public Works. National Road revenue and expenditures, 1839
Document No. 42 Special report of the Board of Public Works transmitting the report of the Superintendent of the National Road, December 30, 1839.
[Report covered the entire road, not just the part in Ohio.] Thomas Drake, Superintendent of the Road, said the total revenue in 1838/39 was
$62,496.10, with toll sheets as evidence. $61,005.14 was spent on a list of road contracts. There were three pages of a detailed table showing the
Contractor's Name, Number of Mile [worked on], Number of Rods, Price per Rod, Amount of Miles, Amount of Contract, Amount Paid, Amount Due. Pages 10-11 showed
the figures for day labor and miscellaneous payouts. Pages 11-12 were the Superintendent's thoughts on the toll situation on the newer part of the
road.
