Document No. 42 Special report of the Board of Public Works transmitting the report of the Superintendent of the National Road, December 30, 1839. [Report covered the entire road, not just the part in Ohio.] Thomas Drake, Superintendent of the Road, said the total revenue in 1838/39 was $62,496.10, with toll sheets as evidence. $61,005.14 was spent on a list of road contracts. There were three pages of a detailed table showing the Contractor's Name, Number of Mile [worked on], Number of Rods, Price per Rod, Amount of Miles, Amount of Contract, Amount Paid, Amount Due. Pages 10-11 showed the figures for day labor and miscellaneous payouts. Pages 11-12 were the Superintendent's thoughts on the toll situation on the newer part of the road.
