Board of Public Works. Special report on letting of work on the Hocking Canal, 1839
Document No. 36 Special report of the Board of Public Works in relation to the letting of work on the Hocking Canal presented December 28, 1839.
The House wanted to know why Hocking Canal work had continued when other public works had to be stopped because there was no money. Also, what was the
Board's relationship with the Board of the Canal Fund? Last April, that Board, looking for loan money out east, determined there would be no loans
for canal work, so no new contracts were to be let. Another man said part of the Hocking Canal went under contract in early September, but only part
of the contractor's bill could be paid, so work ceased.
