1860, Commission from Texas

1860 Governor Sam Houston's transmittal of Joint Resolution from the Texas legislature in response to the election of Abraham Lincoln. The resolution provided that delegates would be sent to the convention of slave-holding states, when requested, as well as providing the financial support for same. Of note, Governor Houston expressed that the situation called for "calm deliberation of statesmen," although expressing willingness order an election for the delegates.
