1848 House of Commons Resolutions, which did not conceding that the United States Congress had the power to prohibit slavery in any of its
territories, but agreed to accept the Missouri Compromise to extend to the Pacific Ocean, given the recent acquisition of California and New Mexico. The
resolutions indicated that this action was for "preserving the peace and promoting the perpetuity of the Union." (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles
