1851, Governor. Communications from Gov. of S.C. & pres. of Nashville Conv.
1851 Message from Governor David S. Reid, which transmitted a communication from South Carolina Governor J.H. Means who sent an act from the South
Carolina General Assembly requesting delegates from all slave-holding states to attend a convention in Montgomery, Alabama. Also included was the
Preamble and Resolutions of the Southern Convention, which, among other resolutions, stated that the black and white races are forever separate, and that
any change from master and slave would end in the "entire ruin of one or both races." The conference then presented a list of "wrongs" enacted by the
federal government regarding the limitations on slavery. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Library of Congress).
