Annual reports of the Attorney General of the State of New York: 1888/89–, plus cumulative index for 1940-62, Albany, state printer, 1888. (The
original paper versions of the attorney generals’ reports and opinions for the bulk of the states were sometimes published together and sometimes
separately, and in some years only reports or only opinions were published; making for a confusing literature. To minimize this confusion in its online
offerings, LLMC has chosen to group the state attorney generals’ reports and opinions in two separate series. For the New York A.G. Reports, see the separate
Opinions series elsewhere on this site. Publication of New York A.G. Reports & Opinions dates from legislation of 1889, which mandated that the A.G.
submit an annual report to the Governor on the activities of his office and also decreed that he should include in those reports opinions rendered by
his office likely to be of general public interest. While the reports for most years included both formal and informal A.G. opinions, the informal
A.G. opinions were published separately in the years 1925 and 1932-1940 in the N.Y. State Department Reports, Vols. 35 & 45-63 respectively. For the
years 1943-1958 the informal opinions were printed in a second volume of the annual reports. As of May, 2008, LLMC lacked , both copies of the
separately-printed 1925 and 1932-1940 opinions, and also the second volumes for the years 1943-58. Copies are solicited for filming purposes. Finally, from 1990
forward, the reports and opinions of the A.G. were published commercially by Lenz & Riecker. They apparently are in copyright and thus unavailable
for offering by LLMC.)
