Manuscript of the proceeding of the Committee of the Defense of New York, dated 1814-1815. This committee dealt with issues regarding defense during the War of 1812. The Chairman of the Committee, Nicholas Fish, was the father of U.S. Senator and Secretary of State Hamilton Fish during the Grant administration. There are two parts for 1814 and 1815, respectively. An appendix at the end of the second part listed the voluntary labor and cash contributed by New York citizen toward the erection of fortifications to protect the city of New York during the summer of 1814.
