Description and Holding Information
1834, Cuaderno de ortografía
Cuaderno de Ortografia, printed in Santa Fe in 1834. This spelling notebook, in Spanish, was dedicated to the children of the Martines family of
Taos, New Mexico. A preface told the reader that good pronunciation depended on proper spelling. According to D.C. McMurtie, author of The first
printing in New Mexico (Chicago, 1929), this small tome is the earliest known example of New Mexican printing. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles
originally held the Historical Society of New Mexico).
