1848? case of United States versus Benigno Ortiz for a debt on statute in the United States Court of the First Judicial District of the Territory of
New Mexico. Opinion in a lawsuit brought against Benigno Ortiz for violation of 4 Stat. 729 (June 30, 1834) and recovery of fine as authorized by
Section 11 of said act. Ortiz was charge with the unauthorized establishment of a settlement on land belonging to the Pueblo of Cochiti. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of titles originally held the New Mexico Supreme Court Archives).
