November 4, 1864 proclamation issued by Governor Newton Edmunds, setting November 24th as a day of thanksgiving for God's great benefits and the success of soldiers in war. I, Newton Edmunds, governor of the Territory of Dakota, do hereby appoint Thursday, the 24th day of November, instant, as a day of public thanksgiving to almighty God ... done at Yankton, the capital, this fourth day of November, A. D., 1864 / Newton Edmunds. Attest : John Hutchinson, secretary.
