1787-02-17, Resolutions on tax collection
February 17, 1787 Various Massachusetts resolutions regarding the collection of debts by the collectors of the public tax. Of note, the preface to
the resolutions noted the "unnatural rebellion," presumably a reference to Shay's Rebellion in Western Massachusetts. (Digitized from a microfilm copy
of titles originally held by the American Antiquarian Society Library in Worcester, Massachusetts (c.1), and the Massachusetts Historical Society
Library (c.2)).
Title:   Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In Senate, February 17, 1787. : Whereas it is necessary that a considerable sum of money should be immediately procured to defray the expences incurred by reason of the detachments lately made for the suppression of the unnatural rebellion now existing in the commonwealth ... Resolved, that the collectors of the public tax ... exert themselves to collect and pay into the treasury ... that part of the said tax which is to be paid in specie ...
