Joint Select Comm. on Northeast Boundary. Report, 1838-03-09
March 9, 1838 Report of the Joint Select Committee regarding the Northeastern boundary and the arrest of E.S. Greely by the British government in New
Brunswick. The committee reiterated that the disputed land was part of U.S. territory and reviewed various attempts by the British government to
challenge the boundary line despite the Treaty of 1783. The report also discussed the arrest and imprisonment of Greely, resulting in a demand that the
federal government protect the state and citizens against Britain's unwarranted actions. Other grievances were also discussed and various resolves
included in this report, all indicating that both state and federal government protect its people living in the disputed area. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Library of Congress).
