Hawaii appellate reports; Cases determined in the Intermediate Court of Appeals of the State of Hawaii: Vol. 1-10, 1980-1994, Honolulu, pr. by Fisher
Printing Co. under the authority of the Hawaii Supreme Court, 1981-1994, all published. (Until 1892 the Supreme Court held both original and
appellate jurisdiction in all Hawaii cases, civil and criminal. In 1892, under Queen Liliuokalani, the Legislature amended the constitution to significantly
reorganize the judiciary. From that date the Supreme Court was restricted to an appellate jurisdiction, and all other judicial business was transferred
to newly-created circuit courts. The judgments of the Supreme Court, but not those of the lower courts, continued to be published in the Hawaii
Reports {Vol. 1, 1847-, offered elsewhere on this site as LLMC No. 77101}. In 1980, to assist in handling the burden of appeals, an Intermediate Court of
Appeals was established, and its judgments were reported in the present separate series. In 1994, after the publication of Vol. 75 of the Hawaii
Reports and Vol. 10 of the Hawaii Appellate Reports, publication of the judgments for both appeals courts was outsourced to the West Publishing Company.
West began a new series, West’s Hawaii Reports. In deference to the venerable length of official publication of the Supreme Court’s reports, the new West
series starts with “Volume 76.” Despite that, the new West title took over coverage for the judgments of, both the Hawaii Supreme Court, and also the
Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals.)
