Reports of some of the judgments and decisions of the courts of record of the Hawaiian Islands for the ten years ending with 1856: title varies, var.
reporters, 1847-, Vol. 1-75, var. state publishers, all published. (Until 1892 the Supreme Court held both original and appellate jurisdiction in all
cases, civil and criminal. In 1892, under Queen Liliuokalani, the Legislature amended the constitution to significantly reorganize the judiciary.
From that date the Supreme Court was restricted to an appellate jurisdiction, and all other judicial business was transferred to newly-created circuit
courts. After Vol. 75 the publication of the Hawaii Supreme Court’s judgments was outsourced to the West Publishing Co., which began a new series,
West’s Hawaii Reports. In deference to the historical importance of the previous official publication, the Hawaii Reports, the new West series starts with
“Volume 76. Despite this, the West title also took over coverage for the judgments of the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals. From its establishment
in 1980 to 1994 the latter court’s judgments had been published separately in a series called the Hawaii Appellate Reports, offered on this site as
LLMC No. 82998.)
