1825-31, Shawnee-Coahuila and Texas agreements (Sp.) (MS)
|
|
1825-1831 Shawnee-Coahuila and Texas agreements, in manuscript and Spanish. A preface in English indicated that this dealt with the permanent establishment of theses Indians on the Red River, providing that they do not form a tribe or nation with their own authorities. Rather, they were to support the Constitution and laws of the state and recognize the Mexican authorities, as well as to "embrace" the religion of the state, consistent with other foreign colonists. Of note, this material has been extracted from the 3rd volume of the Empresarios' contracts (LLMC 01504t) from the Mexican state of Coahuila and Texas. It was felt that, due to its rarity, it should be given greater prominence and therefore has been added as an independent title within the Early State Records collection. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Texas Law Library).
