Commissioner of 2nd Swamp District. Engineer's survey of Lafourche and Terrebonne, 1859
Special report of the Commissioner of the second swamp land district, submitting engineer's report of the survey of the valley of Lafourche and
Terrebonne to the General Assembly. Baton Rouge : J.M. Taylor, 1859. On March 4, 1859, Mr. Gorlinski sent his report on the survey, plan, and cost
estimates for draining the swamp lands in the valley. He started in Thibodaux and went to the Gulf of Mexico, looking for obstructions to water flow. He
eventually recommended at least one canal and strongly recommended the state buy its own dredge boat to do the work. He thanked the residents of the
area for helping with the survey.
