Senate No. 11. Legislature 1844. Report of the Committee on State Affairs. [Michigan] The Committee had studied a bill [text not present] to amend the charters of banks, specifically to change the responsibilities of shareholders, and thought the proposed amendment was reasonable. However, if there were no clause in the charter allowing amendments, what then? The Committee decided that if the bank was not behaving in the public interest, the Legislature had every right "to dissolve corporate rights."
