**Doc. No. 46 Annual report of the Ripley and Hillsborough Turnpike Company. Presented January 2, 1840. This was the condition of the Company as
of November 15, 1839. There had been a marked downturn in the cost of materials and labor, to the benefit of the contractors Tables for the North
and South Division showed the sections, length, price in the contract, total expected cost, spent so far, how much remained, and the contractor's
name. **Doc. No. 29 Report of the Ripley and Hillsborough Turnpike Road Company. [As of November 15, 1840] The State had authorized a loan to the
Company of just over $32,000. The assets of the Company had nearly all been spent. Tables for the North and South Division showed the sections, length,
price in the contract, total expected cost, spent so far, how much remained, and the contractor's name. One of the sections ended in the middle of a
forest, so the contractor kept going until an intersecting road was found.
