Description and Holding Information
Dayton Western Turnpike Road Company, Report, <1840>-
**Doc. No. 20 Report of the Dayton Western Turnpike Road Company. As of December 10, 1840, the Company had 27 miles of roadway under contract, but
owed contractors over $16,000. **Doc. No. 25 Annual report of the Dayton Western Turnpike Road Company. The report was submitted on December 27,
1841. The total road was to be thirty-four miles, with twenty-two presently under toll. The Company did not have the money to begin the final
stretch. It had only realized $1700 in tolls. It would be helpful not to have to pay dividends until the road was completed and paid for. If the state
would pay its warrants on time, it would save money for everyone. **Doc. No. 31 Report of the Dayton Western Turnpike Road Company. In House December
30, 1842. The Company estimated the entire road would be completed in September 1843. It had been helpful to be able to put dividends toward debt
and construction costs. $4,645 came in as tolls, but all but $71 was spent on repairs and other costs. The Company wanted to amend its charter to be
able to collect tolls from residents on the road. **Doc. No. 29 Annual report of the Dayton Western Turnpike Road Company. December 18, 1843.
Condition of the Company as of November 15, 1843. Tolls of $5664 went to pay debts and expenses. The State sent $17,000 which went to pay debts.
