Document No. 101 Special report of the Canal Fund Commissioners relative to the funds and state stock in the Manhattan Company. House--March 11,
1840. The Manhattan Company was the transfer agent for the Canal Fund Commissioners. The Commissioners had to give that company authority to issue
any stock certificates or other paper. It had been suggested that the company was in difficulties, but that was not apparent to the Commissioners.
They had arranged for a loan of $100,000 at 6%, paid quarterly.
