Board of Public Works. Special report on Mad River Feeder … 1840
Doc. No. 95 Special report of the Board of Public Works in reply to a resolution of the Senate, asking for information relative to the Mad River
feeder and the Miami Reservoir. March 2, 1840. The Senate wanted a complete explanation of the projects, and whether they were really necessary. The
Board gave the route of the feeder, which would need 14 or more locks for about $347,000. However, it passed through an area of heavy manufacturing
and its construction would be a great upheaval in the area. The reservoir near Lewiston was essential to the success of the Miami Canal and could be
built quite easily and cheaply. There were two pages of water flow measurements. The Board recognized "the deranged state of monetary affairs" made
decisions difficult.
