Comm. on the Mexican Gulf Railroad. Report, 1867
Report of the Committee on the Mexican Gulf Railroad to the Legislature of the State of Louisiana. Session--January 1867. New Orleans : J.O. Nixon,
1867. The report should be read in conjunction with the last report [not present] The railroad was grossly mismanaged and had no money for present
operations or future construction. An Act directing the Attorney General to institute proceedings for the forfeiture of the charter of the Mexican
Gulf Railroad. The railroad completely failed to carry out the terms of its charter and caused serious loss to investors. There were reports of two
meetings with members of the management of the railroad, creditors, and employees. All the finances were confused or possibly mythical. Almost no one
had been paid. The Southeastern Railroad claimed to have bought the Mexican Gulf Railroad, but that could not be proved. One creditor said, "I
cannot understand how any people with common sense can allow such a road to continue."
