Report of the Howard Association of New Orleans of receipts, expenditures, and their work in the epidemic of 1878, with names of contributors, etc.
New Orleans, La. : A.W. Hyatt, 1878. P. 3 listed the officers, all men, p. 5-7 was a history of the organization, a group of friends dedicated to
assisting each other and eventually anyone during yellow fever epidemics. P. 9-14 listed where in the city to apply for help and many pages of
thank-yous to individuals and companies all over the country. P. 15-28 reported on their activities during the 1878 epidemic, with a list of the nativities of
patients, a racial breakdown, a list of towns affected and geographical sources of money, even from Europe, with lists of how the money was spent.
P. 28-56 listed, in fine print, all the people, groups, and geographical areas that had sent money and how much. P. 56-59 listed gifts in kind. It was
a mammoth record-keeping task.
