1855-10-23, Topeka Constitution
October 23, 1855 Topeka Constitution, the constitution of the State of Kansas. Of note, it was written to establish an antislavery territorial
government in opposition to the existing proslavery territorial government in Kansas. Thus two territorial governments were in existence, but this
constitution did not pass, with support from the U.S. House, but not Senate nor Pres. Pierce. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by
the Kansas Historical Society).
