The 1857 Constitution of the State of Iowa adopted in convention at Iowa City on March 5, 1857, and submitted for ratification in August 1857. Of
note, despite the Bill of Rights, the voters disenfranchised black men until after the Civil War. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally
