Surveyor General. Communication on Eastern Boundary survey, 1860
|
|
Communication of the Surveyor-General relative to easter boundary survey. In response to an act requiring him to establish part of the eastern boundary of California, Mr. Higley set out in mid-June for Lake Bigler and the 120th meridian. He and his team worked their way north, but eventually learned the United States was sending a Commissioner to do the same work, so Higley stopped. When the U.S. Commissioner arrived, California law was confused about whether they could work together. After correspondence with the Attorney-General and the Governor, the issue was not really resolved, so the two men decided to work together anyway, just to get the work done. Higley submitted his financials to that point.
