1883, Choctaw Nation, Freedmen and Registration bills
|

The Freedmen and Registration Bills, passed at a special session of the Choctaw Council, Indian Territory, May 1883. Of note, the initial act allowed all freedmen and their descendants formerly held in slavery all rights, privileges, as well as suffrage. However, these freedmen were not allowed to participate in the annuities, moneys and public domain claimed by the Nation. Also included was a registration bill.
