October 1801 Petition of the Narragansett Council for a prohibition of selling liquor to the members, as they fall into debt and jailed, or lose
their land. The second document was a bill to prohibit the sale of liquor to the tribe, as well as any persons of color intermarried with its members;
all contracts and securities were declared void if liquor was involved. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Rhode Island
