1834-05-10, Act to prevent trespasses upon Narragansett lands (MS)
May 10, 1834 Petition and proposed bill of Tobias Ross of the Narragansett Tribe to prevent trespassing and taking of land and trees, particularly
from outsiders who marry the tribe's women. Ross expressed disparaging remarks against these men, particularly Negroes. The proposed act had
provisions which separated women from the tribe if they intermarry; had loss of privileges if not in residence for 10 years; and and had sections against
trespass. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Rhode Island Department of State).
