1832-06-23, Remonstrance to Dr. Dan King's report (MS)
June 23, 1832 Remonstrance by the Narragansett Tribe against the report of the committee on the tribe, authored by Dan King. This petition
challenged his findings that there are only about 150 non-racially mixed member; most members are insolvent and debtors; as well as other negative findings.
This petition claimed that most members are similar to the rest of town community, and that the members of whatever ethnicity are members of the tribe.
They then prayed that no laws be repealed and if any lands be sold, the tribe of individual be given timely notice. Of note, the petition ended
with a claim that a prior petition of a doctor was because he wanted some tribal property. See, LLMC #41084 and 41325 for possibly related documents.
