1840, Opinion of the justices of the Supreme Court
1840 Opinions of the Justices of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court regarding the power of the legislature to grant divorces, whether or not the court
also has jurisdiction over the matter. The justices opined that the court's divorce jurisdiction was exclusive in cases where it has legal
jurisdiction, and thus the legislature may not grant divorces in those instances. The legislature may so grant divorces in instances when those divorces do not
fall under the court's jurisdiction. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
