Description and Holding Information
Board of Commissioners. Act for relief of debtors, 1840
January 1, 1840 report and proposed bill, prepared by a joint Board of Commissioners to revise Maine laws regarding the relief of insolvent debtors,
and for the more equal distribution of their effects. Included were protections for the debtors, as well as the procedure for obtaining money for
payment to debtors. Also included was a general form of the debtor's certificate to be used by the Commissioner, after said debtor delivered his estate
and other conformed to the mandates of the act. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
