Description and Holding Information
1817, Journal of the proceedings of the Convention (1816)
1817 Journal of the Proceedings at the 1816 Convention at Brunswick on the subject of separation of Maine from the government of Massachusetts.
Included were the principal speeches and debates on the various topics before the convention, and the convention's conclusion favoring separation. Also
attached was the decision of the joint committee of the Massachusetts legislature which concluded that the Brunswick Convention did not follow the
instruction given by the legislature, and thus the voting process was not properly followed. Resolutions that so noted this, and determined that it was
not expedient for the legislature to adopt any further measures were made. See LLMC #23913-14 for related documents. (Digitized from a microfilm copy
of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society Library).
