House. Comm. on the Charles River Bridges. Report, 1828
SEE ALSO 51947 H.R. No. 45 On February 12, 1828, a committee which had been considering buying out the Charles River and West Boston bridges
submitted a report. Resolved: to offer the Proprietors of the Charles River and West Boston bridges $150,000 each payable in treasury certificates at 4 1/2%
quarterly paid off by the tolls. When the payments were completed, the bridge toll then would be only enough for maintenance of the bridges. A Mr.
Washburn offered a total amendment. The proprietors of each bridge would continue to enjoy their franchise, with no other bridges built, for eight

Title:   The committee to whom was referred the report of a special committee of this House, in relation to a negociation with the proprietors of the several bridges over Charles River, with instructions to inquire into the expediency of proposing a definite sum to be given to the proprietors of Charles River Bridge and also to the proprietors of West Boston Bridge, for a relinquishment of their rights in those several charters to the Commonwealth, payable in four and a half per cent stock, out of the tolls of the bridges, have had that subject under consideration and ask leave to report the following resolves ...
