General Court. Act amending and act to provide instruction for youth, 1826
|
|
Addition to an act ... to provide for the instruction of youth ..., 1826. If a Town had no school committee, the selectmen were to serve as the committee. They were to choose and purchase the textbooks and then sell them to the students at cost. Should a family fail to purchase the textbooks, the cost of the books would be added to its taxes. However, a family could be judged too poor to purchase the books and the cost could be forgiven or reduced. Half of the school funds were to be allocated to the districts based on the school age population (ages 6-18) therein, with the other half were to be allocated based on the amount of taxes paid by each district. Any questions about re-drawing district lines were to be settled by the procedures outlined in an act of February 28, 1800. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
