General Court. Act fixing legislative compensation, 1826
|

An act fixing the compensation of Counsellors, Senators, and Representatives and equalizing the expenses of legislation, 1826. Each member was to be
paid $2/day plus $2 for every 20 miles of travel. The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House each were to receive an extra $2/day. As
an example, if a town were constitutionally authorized to send four representatives to the General Court, the state would pay the salaries for two of
them, but the town must pay the salaries of the other two. Towns beginning with N through Z who were authorized to send one representative were
expected to pay the salary of that person in the even numbered years, i.e., 1826; the state would pay for the odd years. Other towns A-M with a single
representative were to pay the expenses during odd years; the state would pay for even years. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by
