SEE ALSO 51739 On January 26, 1826, were presented Articles of Impeachment by the House of Representatives ... in Their Own Name and the Name of the People of Massachusetts Against Samuel Blagge, Esq., Justice of the Peace ... for the County of Suffolk, together With Respondent's Answer. Boston : True & Greene, State Printers, 1826. Blagge was accused, in painful detail, of creating certificates, that were likely like identity papers, for several men whom he had not seen personally, which was and is not allowed. He was further accused of doing this fraudulently and being paid $1.00 for each certificate. Blagge said he was not guilty and he could prove it and the House Committee said it could prove its allegations, so a trial was next.
