House. Bill relating to paupers, 1824
|
|
In 1824, a bill was presented to the General Court that said anyone who took or harbored an almshouse inmate without the Overseer's permission would
be fined. The Overseer or his agent could pursue inmates and force them to return to the almshouse. No one over the age of 12 or under the age of 60
who was fit to work could be considered a pauper. Both male and female paupers needed certificates of their status. (Digitized from a microfilm
