Davenport, Discourse on civil government, 1663
1663 pamphlet, entitled "Discourse about Civil Government in a New Plantation Whose Design is Religion," listing John Cotton as the author. Of note,
a manuscript note indicated that the actual author was Mr. Davenport (i.e., John Davenport, 1597-1670, a founder of the New Haven Colony); a
handwritten addition of his name was found on the title page. Included were discussions regarding the differences between civil and religious authority and
concerns, and if civil matters be limited to church members. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
