1812-08-01, Proclamation creating the county of Mobile
August 1, 1812 Proclamation of Governor David Holmes of the Mississippi Territory adding Mobile County to the territory following a Congressional act
in May 14, 1812 which enlarged the boundaries of the territory. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Mississippi
Department of Archives and History).
Title:   A proclamation : Whereas, by an act of the Congress ... there has been annexed to the said territory, all that tract of country lying east of Pearl River, west of the Perdido, and south of the thirty first degree of north latitude ... I do hereby erect the same into a county ... by the name of Mobile, and do further declare that the laws of the Mississippi Territory ... are in force within the said county ...
